The Grim Reaper and my eyes

The Grim Reaper always makes
My eyes glint like steel

You can tell who's been workin
You can tell who's been real
Tell whose been telling the truth
And is honest about how they feel

There’s something in their gait
There’s something in their ways
Something in their smallest movements
That shows they’ve made it through

Some hard days

May we find some mercy and compassion
Some room in our hearts if we can
For the struggle in all our lives
For the soul of our fellow woman and man

One has to want to be free
To be unchained from the lies and deceit
One has to not wish to twist the truth
To be able to rise above fear of defeat

Definitely willfully effort to survive
Strive to do well while on this earth
But it is not in the trappings
Of small accolades

That gives our basic humanity
It’s real worth

The world is a Helleva place
Sometimes it takes a savage grace
Your presence always helped make it
Definitely a better place

May you have the strength of water
May you sustain the intensity of fire
Let not the weight of the Earth
Crush out your hearts desire

We love you out here in the badlands
Amidst the storms of ice and cold
And I know we look ragged and dangerous
But you have touched us to our soul

Some of us only have our swords
Our memories and dreams
And every now and then a quiet camp
And a clean clear sparkling stream

I thank you for your beauty
Your inner light and flame
May as the evening sun goes down
The ravens and wolves long remember your name
